Most people on dating apps are genuine. A small number are not — and they usually follow the same script. These eight rules will keep you safe without taking the fun out of meeting someone new.

Quick tips: Never send money, Video call before meeting, Report anything that feels off

1. Never send money

Not for a ticket, a hospital bill, a visa or a "temporary problem". No matter how real the story sounds, sending money to someone you haven't met is the number-one way people get scammed.

2. Stay on TrncDate until you trust them

Scammers want to move you to WhatsApp or Telegram quickly, where there's no reporting and no protection. There's no rush.

3. Look for the verified badge

Verified members have passed a selfie check. You can choose to be contacted only by verified members in your privacy settings.

4. Video call first

A short video call confirms the person matches their photos. Someone who always has a broken camera is a red flag.

5. Meet in a busy public place

Choose a café, the harbour or a campus area. Tell a friend where you're going and share your live location with them.

6. Arrange your own transport

Get there and back on your own so you can leave whenever you want.

7. Keep personal details private

Don't share your address, your student ID or bank details early on. Turn on the two-step login code in Security to protect your account.

8. Report, block, move on

If something feels wrong, tap Report on their profile — our team reads every report. If you ever feel in danger in North Cyprus, call the police on 155 or emergency services on 112.

Trust your instincts. A genuine person will understand if you want to take things slowly.
